Saheeh InternationalWhen the sky has split [open]

Abdel HaleemWhen the sky is ripped apart,

Saheeh InternationalAnd has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

Abdel Haleemobeying its Lord as it rightly must,

Saheeh InternationalAnd when the earth has been extended

Abdel Haleemwhen the earth is levelled out,

Saheeh InternationalAnd has cast out that within it and relinquished [it].

Abdel Haleemcasts out its contents, and becomes empty,

Saheeh InternationalAnd has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

Abdel Haleemobeying its Lord as it rightly must,

Saheeh InternationalO mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

Abdel Haleemyou humans, toiling laboriously towards your Lord, will meet Him:

Saheeh InternationalThen as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

Abdel Haleemwhoever is given his record in his right hand

Saheeh InternationalHe will be judged with an easy account

Abdel Haleemwill have an easy reckoning

Saheeh InternationalAnd return to his people in happiness.

Abdel Haleemand return to his people well pleased,

Saheeh InternationalBut as for he who is given his record behind his back,

Abdel Haleembut whoever is given his record from behind his back

Saheeh InternationalHe will cry out for destruction

Abdel Haleemwill cry out for destruction––

Saheeh InternationalAnd [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

Abdel Haleemhe will burn in the blazing Fire.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

Abdel HaleemHe used to live among his people well pleased.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

Abdel HaleemHe thought he would never return [to his Lord]––

Saheeh InternationalBut yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

Abdel Haleemindeed he will! His Lord was watching him.

Saheeh InternationalSo I swear by the twilight glow

Abdel HaleemI swear by the glow of sunset,

Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the night and what it envelops

Abdel Haleemby the night and what it covers,

Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] the moon when it becomes full

Abdel Haleemby the full moon,

Saheeh International[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.

Abdel Haleemyou will progress from stage to stage.

Saheeh InternationalSo what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

Abdel HaleemSo why do they not believe?

Saheeh InternationalAnd when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

Abdel HaleemWhy, when the Quran is read to them, do they not prostrate themselves [to God]?

Saheeh InternationalBut those who have disbelieved deny,

Abdel HaleemNo! The disbelievers reject the Quran––

Saheeh InternationalAnd Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

Abdel HaleemGod knows best what they keep hidden inside––

Saheeh InternationalSo give them tidings of a painful punishment,

Abdel Haleemso give them news of a painful torment.

Saheeh InternationalExcept for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

Abdel HaleemBut those who believe and do good deeds will have a never-ending reward.
