Al-Mutaffifin

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ۝١

Saheeh InternationalWoe to those who give less [than due],

Abdel HaleemWoe to those who give short measure,

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ۝٢

Saheeh InternationalWho, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

Abdel Haleemwho demand of other people full measure for themselves,

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ۝٣

Saheeh InternationalBut if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

Abdel Haleembut give less than they should when it is they who weigh or measure for others!

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ۝٤

Saheeh InternationalDo they not think that they will be resurrected

Abdel HaleemDo these people not realize that they will be raised up

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ۝٥

Saheeh InternationalFor a tremendous Day -

Abdel Haleemon a mighty Day,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ۝٦

Saheeh InternationalThe Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

Abdel Haleema Day when everyone will stand before the Lord of the Worlds?

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ۝٧

Saheeh InternationalNo! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

Abdel HaleemNo indeed! The list of the wicked is in Sijjin––

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ۝٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd what can make you know what is sijjeen?

Abdel Haleemwhat will explain to you what Sijjin is?––

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ۝٩

Saheeh InternationalIt is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.

Abdel Haleema clearly numbered list.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ۝١٠

Saheeh InternationalWoe, that Day, to the deniers,

Abdel HaleemWoe on that day to the deniers,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ۝١١

Saheeh InternationalWho deny the Day of Recompense.

Abdel Haleemthose who deny the Day of Judgement!

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ۝١٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

Abdel HaleemOnly the evil aggressor denies it:

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ۝١٣

Saheeh InternationalWhen Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

Abdel Haleemwhen Our revelations are recited to him, he says, ‘Ancient fables!’

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ۝١٤

Saheeh InternationalNo! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

Abdel HaleemNo indeed! Their hearts are encrusted with what they have done.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ۝١٥

Saheeh InternationalNo! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.

Abdel HaleemNo indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from their Lord,

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ۝١٦

Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

Abdel Haleemthey will burn in Hell,

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ۝١٧

Saheeh InternationalThen it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

Abdel Haleemand they will be told, ‘This is what you called a lie.’

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ۝١٨

Saheeh InternationalNo! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿilliyyūn.

Abdel HaleemNo indeed! The list of the truly good is in 'Illiyyin––

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ۝١٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd what can make you know what is ʿilliyyūn?

Abdel Haleemwhat will explain to you what 'Illiyyin is?––

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ۝٢٠

Saheeh InternationalIt is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed

Abdel Haleema clearly written list,

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ۝٢١

Saheeh InternationalWhich is witnessed by those brought near [to Allāh].

Abdel Haleemwitnessed by those brought near.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ۝٢٢

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

Abdel HaleemThe truly good will live in bliss,

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ۝٢٣

Saheeh InternationalOn adorned couches, observing.

Abdel Haleemseated on couches, gazing around.

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ۝٢٤

Saheeh InternationalYou will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

Abdel HaleemYou will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss.

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ۝٢٥

Saheeh InternationalThey will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.

Abdel HaleemThey will be served a sealed nectar,

خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ۝٢٦

Saheeh InternationalThe last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

Abdel Haleemits seal [perfumed with] a fragrant herb––let those who strive, strive for this––

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ۝٢٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd its mixture is of Tasneem,

Abdel Haleemmixed with the water of Tasnim,

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ۝٢٨

Saheeh InternationalA spring from which those near [to Allāh] drink.

Abdel Haleema spring from which those brought near will drink.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ۝٢٩

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

Abdel HaleemThe wicked used to laugh at the believers––

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ۝٣٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

Abdel Haleemthey would wink at one another when the believers passed by them,

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ۝٣١

Saheeh InternationalAnd when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

Abdel Haleemjoke about them when they got back to their own people,

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ۝٣٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

Abdel Haleemand say, when they saw them, ‘These people are misguided,’

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ۝٣٣

Saheeh InternationalBut they had not been sent as guardians over them.

Abdel Haleemthough they were not sent to be their keepers-

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ۝٣٤

Saheeh InternationalSo Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

Abdel Haleemso today the believers are laughing at the disbelievers

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ۝٣٥

Saheeh InternationalOn adorned couches, observing.

Abdel Haleemas they sit on couches, gazing around.

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ۝٣٦

Saheeh InternationalHave the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

Abdel HaleemHave the disbelievers [not] been repaid for their deeds?
