An-Nazi'at

Those who drag forth

Saheeh InternationalBy those [angels] who extract with violence

Abdel HaleemBy the forceful chargers

Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] those who remove with ease

Abdel Haleemraring to go,

Saheeh InternationalAnd [by] those who glide [as if] swimming

Abdel Haleemsweeping ahead at full stretch,

Saheeh InternationalAnd those who race each other in a race

Abdel Haleemovertaking swiftly

Saheeh InternationalAnd those who arrange [each] matter,

Abdel Haleemto bring the matter to an end,

Saheeh InternationalOn the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],

Abdel Haleemon the Day when the blast reverberates

Saheeh InternationalThere will follow it the subsequent [one].

Abdel Haleemand the second blast follows,

Saheeh InternationalHearts, that Day, will tremble,

Abdel Haleemhearts will tremble

Saheeh InternationalTheir eyes humbled.

Abdel Haleemand eyes will be downcast.

Saheeh InternationalThey are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?

Abdel HaleemThey say, ‘What? shall we be brought back to life,

Saheeh InternationalEven if we should be decayed bones?"

Abdel Haleemafter we have turned into decayed bones?’ and they say,

Saheeh InternationalThey say, "That, then, would be a losing return."

Abdel Haleem‘Such a return is impossible!’

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it will be but one shout,

Abdel HaleemBut all it will take is a single blast,

Saheeh InternationalAnd suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.

Abdel Haleemand they will be back above ground.

Saheeh InternationalHas there reached you the story of Moses? -

Abdel HaleemHave you [Prophet] heard the story of Moses?

Saheeh InternationalWhen his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwā,

Abdel HaleemHis Lord called out to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:

Saheeh International"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

Abdel Haleem‘Go to Pharaoh, for he has exceeded all bounds,

Saheeh InternationalAnd say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself

Abdel Haleemand ask him, “Do you want to purify yourself [of sin]?

Saheeh InternationalAnd let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"

Abdel HaleemDo you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you may hold Him in awe?” ’

Saheeh InternationalAnd he showed him the greatest sign,

Abdel HaleemMoses showed him the great sign,

Saheeh InternationalBut he [i.e., Pharaoh] denied and disobeyed.

Abdel Haleembut he denied it and refused [the faith].

Saheeh InternationalThen he turned his back, striving [i.e., plotting].

Abdel HaleemHe turned away and hastily

Saheeh InternationalAnd he gathered [his people] and called out.

Abdel Haleemgathered his people, proclaiming,

Saheeh InternationalAnd said, "I am your most exalted lord."

Abdel Haleem‘I am your supreme lord,’

Saheeh InternationalSo Allāh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]..

Abdel Haleemso God condemned him to punishment in the life to come as well as in this life:

Saheeh InternationalIndeed in that is a lesson [i.e., warning] for whoever would fear [Allāh].

Abdel Haleemthere truly is a lesson in this for anyone who stands in awe of God.

Saheeh InternationalAre you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? He [i.e., Allāh] constructed it.

Abdel HaleemWhich is harder to create: you people or the sky that He built,

Saheeh InternationalHe raised its ceiling and proportioned it.

Abdel Haleemraising it high and perfecting it,

Saheeh InternationalAnd He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.

Abdel Haleemgiving darkness to its night and bringing out its morning brightness,

Saheeh InternationalAnd after that He spread the earth.

Abdel Haleemand the earth, too, He spread out,

Saheeh InternationalHe extracted from it its water and its pasture,

Abdel Haleembringing waters and pastures out of it,

Saheeh InternationalAnd the mountains He set firmly

Abdel Haleemand setting firm mountains [in it]

Saheeh InternationalAs enjoyment [i.e., provision] for you and your grazing livestock.

Abdel Haleemfor you and your animals to enjoy?

Saheeh InternationalBut when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -

Abdel HaleemWhen the great overwhelming event arrives

Saheeh InternationalThe Day when man will remember that for which he strove,

Abdel Haleemon the Day that man remembers what he has done

Saheeh InternationalAnd Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -

Abdel Haleemand Hell is there for all to see,

Saheeh InternationalSo as for he who transgressed

Abdel Haleemfor anyone who has transgressed

Saheeh InternationalAnd preferred the life of the world,

Abdel Haleemand preferred the present life

Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.

Abdel HaleemHell will be home;

Saheeh InternationalBut as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,

Abdel Haleemfor anyone who feared the meeting with his Lord and restrained himself from base desires,

Saheeh InternationalThen indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.

Abdel HaleemParadise will be home.

Saheeh InternationalThey ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?

Abdel HaleemThey ask you [Prophet] about the Hour,

Saheeh InternationalIn what [position] are you that you should mention it?

Abdel Haleemsaying, ‘When will it arrive?’, but how can you tell [them that]?

Saheeh InternationalTo your Lord is its finality.

Abdel HaleemIts time is known only to your Lord;

Saheeh InternationalYou are only a warner for those who fear it.

Abdel Haleemyou are only sent to warn those who fear it.

Saheeh InternationalIt will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.

Abdel HaleemOn the Day they see it, it will seem they lingered [in this life] an evening [at most,] or its morning.
