Al-Insan

The Man

Saheeh InternationalHas there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?

Abdel HaleemWas there not a period of time when man was nothing to speak of ?

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.

Abdel HaleemWe created man from a drop of mingled fluid to put him to the test; We gave him hearing and sight;

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.

Abdel HaleemWe guided him to the right path, whether he was grateful or not.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze.

Abdel HaleemWe have prepared chains, iron collars, and blazing Fire for the disbelievers, but

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kāfūr,

Abdel Haleemthe righteous will have a drink mixed with kafur,

Saheeh InternationalA spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allāh will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance].

Abdel Haleema spring for God’s servants, which flows abundantly at their wish.

Saheeh InternationalThey [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.

Abdel HaleemThey fulfil their vows; they fear a day of widespread woes;

Saheeh InternationalAnd they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,

Abdel Haleemthey give food to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, though they love it themselves,

Saheeh International[Saying], "We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.

Abdel Haleemsaying, ‘We feed you for the sake of God alone: We seek neither recompense nor thanks from you.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful."

Abdel HaleemWe fear the Day of our Lord––a woefully grim Day.’

Saheeh InternationalSo Allāh will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness

Abdel HaleemSo God will save them from the woes of that Day, give them radiance and gladness,

Saheeh InternationalAnd will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].

Abdel Haleemand reward them, for their steadfastness, with a Garden and silken robes.

Saheeh International[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold.

Abdel HaleemThey will sit on couches, feeling neither scorching heat nor biting cold,

Saheeh InternationalAnd near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance.

Abdel Haleemwith shady [branches] spread above them and clusters of fruit hanging close at hand.

Saheeh InternationalAnd there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass],

Abdel HaleemThey will be served with silver plates

Saheeh InternationalClear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure.

Abdel Haleemand gleaming silver goblets according to their fancy,

Saheeh InternationalAnd they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger

Abdel Haleemand they will be given a drink infused with ginger

Saheeh International[From] a fountain within it [i.e., Paradise] named Salsabeel.

Abdel Haleemfrom a spring called Salsabil.

Saheeh InternationalThere will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.

Abdel HaleemEverlasting youths will attend them––if you could see them, you would think they were scattered pearls––

Saheeh InternationalAnd when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion.

Abdel Haleemand if you were to look around, you would see bliss and great wealth:

Saheeh InternationalUpon them [i.e., the inhabitants] will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.

Abdel Haleemthey will wear garments of green silk and brocade; they will be adorned with silver bracelets; their Lord will give them a pure drink.

Saheeh International[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."

Abdel Haleem[It will be said], ‘This is your reward. Your endeavours are appreciated.’

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Qur’ān progressively.

Abdel HaleemWe Ourself have sent down this Quran to you [Prophet] in gradual revelation.

Saheeh InternationalSo be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].

Abdel HaleemAwait your Lord’s Judgement with patience; do not yield to any of these sinners or disbelievers;

Saheeh InternationalAnd mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening

Abdel Haleemremember the name of your Lord at dawn and in the evening;

Saheeh InternationalAnd during the night prostrate to Him and exalt [i.e., praise] Him a long [part of the] night.

Abdel Haleembow down before Him, and glorify Him at length by night.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day.

Abdel HaleemThese people love the fleeting life. They put aside [all thoughts of] a Heavy Day.

Saheeh InternationalWe have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration.

Abdel HaleemYet We created them; We strengthened their constitution; if We please, We can replace such people completely.

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way.

Abdel HaleemThis is a reminder. Let whoever wishes, take the way to his Lord.

Saheeh InternationalAnd you do not will except that Allāh wills. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

Abdel HaleemBut you will only wish to do so if God wills- God is all knowing, all wise-

Saheeh InternationalHe admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment.

Abdel HaleemHe admits whoever He will into His Mercy and has prepared a painful torment for the disbelievers.
