Saheeh InternationalI swear by the Day of Resurrection
Abdel HaleemBy the Day of Resurrection

Abdel Haleemand by the self-reproaching soul!
Saheeh InternationalDoes man think that We will not assemble his bones?
Abdel HaleemDoes man think We shall not put his bones back together?
Saheeh InternationalYes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
Abdel HaleemIn fact, We can reshape his very fingertips.
Saheeh InternationalBut man desires to continue in sin.
Abdel HaleemYet man wants to deny what is ahead of him:
Saheeh InternationalHe asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
Abdel Haleemhe says, ‘So, when will this Day of Resurrection be?’

Saheeh InternationalRather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
Abdel HaleemTruly, man is a clear witness against himself,
Saheeh InternationalEven if he presents his excuses.
Abdel Haleemdespite all the excuses he may put forward.
Saheeh InternationalMove not your tongue with it, [O Muḥammad], to hasten with it [i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān].
Abdel Haleem[Prophet], do not rush your tongue in an attempt to hasten [your memorization of] the Revelation:
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
Abdel HaleemWe shall make sure of its safe collection and recitation.
Saheeh InternationalSo when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
Abdel HaleemWhen We have recited it, repeat the recitation
Saheeh InternationalThen upon Us is its clarification [to you].
Abdel Haleemand We shall make it clear.

Abdel Haleemand on that Day there will be the sad and despairing faces
Saheeh InternationalExpecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
Abdel Haleemof those who realize that a great calamity is about to befall them.
Saheeh InternationalNo! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones
Abdel HaleemTruly, when the soul reaches the collarbone;
Saheeh InternationalAnd it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"
Abdel Haleemwhen it is said, ‘Could any charm-healer save him now?’;
Saheeh InternationalAnd he [i.e., the dying one] is certain that it is the [time of] separation
Abdel Haleemwhen he knows it is the final parting;
Saheeh InternationalAnd the leg is wound about the leg,
Abdel Haleemwhen his legs are brought together:
Saheeh InternationalTo your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
Abdel Haleemon that day he will be driven towards your Lord.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he [i.e., the disbeliever] had not believed, nor had he prayed.
Abdel HaleemHe neither believed nor prayed,
Saheeh InternationalBut [instead], he denied and turned away.
Abdel Haleembut denied the truth and turned away,
Saheeh InternationalAnd then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].
Abdel Haleemwalking back to his people with a conceited swagger.
Saheeh InternationalWoe to you, and woe!
Abdel HaleemCloser and closer it comes to you.
Saheeh InternationalThen woe to you, and woe!
Abdel HaleemCloser and closer still.
Saheeh InternationalDoes man think that he will be left neglected?
Abdel HaleemDoes man think he will be left alone?
Saheeh InternationalHad he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
Abdel HaleemWas he not just a drop of spilt-out sperm,
Saheeh InternationalThen he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
Abdel Haleemwhich became a clinging form, which God shaped in due proportion,
Saheeh InternationalAnd made of him two mates, the male and the female.
Abdel Haleemfashioning from it the two sexes, male and female?
Saheeh InternationalIs not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
Abdel HaleemDoes He who can do this not have the power to bring the dead back to life?
