Saheeh InternationalA supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen
Abdel HaleemA man [mockingly] demanded the punishment.
Saheeh InternationalTo the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.
Abdel HaleemIt will fall on the disbelievers––none can deflect it––
Saheeh International[It is] from Allāh, owner of the ways of ascent.
Abdel Haleemfrom God, the Lord of the Ways of Ascent,
Saheeh InternationalThe angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.
Abdel Haleemby which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him, on a Day whose length is fifty thousand years.
Saheeh InternationalSo be patient with gracious patience.
Abdel HaleemSo be patient, [Prophet], as befits you.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, they see it [as] distant,
Abdel HaleemThe disbelievers think it is distant,
Saheeh InternationalBut We see it [as] near.
Abdel Haleembut We know it to be close.
Saheeh InternationalOn the Day the sky will be like murky oil,
Abdel HaleemOn a Day when the heavens will be like molten brass
Saheeh InternationalAnd the mountains will be like wool,
Abdel Haleemand the mountains like tufts of wool,
Saheeh InternationalAnd no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,
Abdel Haleemwhen no friend will ask about his friend,
Saheeh InternationalThey will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children.
Abdel Haleemeven when they are within sight of one another. The guilty person will wish he could save himself from the suffering of that Day by sacrificing his sons,
Saheeh InternationalAnd his wife and his brother
Abdel Haleemhis spouse, his brother,
Saheeh InternationalAnd his nearest kindred who shelter him.
Abdel Haleemthe kinsfolk who gave him shelter,
Saheeh InternationalAnd whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.
Abdel Haleemand everyone on earth, if it could save him.
Saheeh InternationalNo! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],
Abdel HaleemBut no! There is a raging flame
Saheeh InternationalA remover of exteriors.
Abdel Haleemthat strips away the skin,
Saheeh InternationalIt invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]
Abdel Haleemand it will claim everyone who rejects the truth, turns away,
Saheeh InternationalAnd collected [wealth] and hoarded.
Abdel Haleemamasses wealth and hoards it.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, mankind was created anxious:
Abdel HaleemMan was truly created anxious:
Saheeh InternationalWhen evil touches him, impatient,
Abdel Haleemhe is fretful when misfortune touches him,
Saheeh InternationalAnd when good touches him, withholding [of it],
Abdel Haleembut tight-fisted when good fortune comes his way.
Saheeh InternationalExcept the observers of prayer -
Abdel HaleemNot so those who pray
Saheeh InternationalThose who are constant in their prayer
Abdel Haleemand are constant in their prayers;
Saheeh InternationalAnd those within whose wealth is a known right
Abdel Haleemwho give a due share of their wealth
Saheeh InternationalFor the petitioner and the deprived -
Abdel Haleemto beggars and the deprived;
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who believe in the Day of Recompense
Abdel Haleemwho believe in the Day of Judgement
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -
Abdel Haleemand fear the punishment of their Lord––
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -
Abdel Haleemnone may feel wholly secure from it––
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who guard their private parts
Abdel Haleemwho guard their chastity
Saheeh InternationalExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed -
Abdel Haleemfrom all but their spouses or their slave-girls––there is no blame attached to [relations with] these,
Saheeh InternationalBut whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -
Abdel Haleembut those whose desires exceed this limit are truly transgressors––
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who are to their trusts and promises attentive.
Abdel Haleemwho are faithful to their trusts and their pledges;
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who are in their testimonies upright
Abdel Haleemwho give honest testimony
Saheeh InternationalAnd those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:
Abdel Haleemand are steadfast in their prayers.
Saheeh InternationalThey will be in gardens, honored.
Abdel HaleemThey will be honoured in Gardens of bliss.
Saheeh InternationalSo what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muḥammad],
Abdel HaleemWhat is wrong with the disbelievers? Why do they rush to peer at you [Prophet],
Saheeh International[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?
Abdel Haleemfrom right and left, in crowds?
Saheeh InternationalDoes every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?
Abdel HaleemDoes every one of them expect to enter a Garden of bliss?
Saheeh InternationalNo! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.
Abdel HaleemNo! We created them from the substance they know,
Saheeh InternationalSo I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able
Abdel Haleemand, by the Lord of every sunrise and sunset, We have the power
Saheeh InternationalTo replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.
Abdel Haleemto substitute for them others better than they are- nothing can prevent Us from doing this.
Saheeh InternationalSo leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -
Abdel HaleemSo leave them to wallow in idle talk, until they come face to face with their promised Day,
Saheeh InternationalThe Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.
Abdel Haleemthe Day they will rush out of their graves as if rallying to a flag,
Saheeh InternationalTheir eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
Abdel Haleemeyes downcast and covered in shame: that is the Day of which they were warned.
