Al-Jinn

The Jinn

Saheeh InternationalSay, [O Muḥammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].

Abdel HaleemSay [Prophet], ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn once listened in and said, “We have heard a wondrous Quran,

Saheeh InternationalIt guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

Abdel Haleemthat gives guidance to the right path, and we have come to believe it––We shall never set up partners with our Lord––

Saheeh InternationalAnd [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

Abdel Haleemand that He––exalted be the glory of our Lord!––has neither spouse nor child.

Saheeh InternationalAnd that our foolish one [i.e., Iblees] has been saying about Allāh an excessive transgression.

Abdel HaleemOutrageous things have been said about God by the foolish among us,

Saheeh InternationalAnd we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allāh a lie.

Abdel Haleemalthough we had thought that no man or jinn would [dare to] tell a lie about Him.

Saheeh InternationalAnd there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden [i.e., sin].

Abdel HaleemMen have sought refuge with the jinn in the past, but they only misguided them further.

Saheeh InternationalAnd they had thought, as you thought, that Allāh would never send anyone [as a messenger].

Abdel HaleemThey thought, as you did, that God would never raise anyone from the dead.

Saheeh InternationalAnd we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

Abdel HaleemWe tried to reach heaven, but discovered it to be full of stern guards and shooting stars––

Saheeh InternationalAnd we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

Abdel Haleemwe used to sit in places there, listening, but anyone trying to listen now will find a shooting star lying in wait for him––

Saheeh InternationalAnd we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

Abdel Haleem[so now] we do not know whether those who live on earth are due for misfortune, or whether their Lord intends to guide them.

Saheeh InternationalAnd among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

Abdel HaleemSome of us are righteous and others less so: we follow different paths.

Saheeh InternationalAnd we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allāh upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

Abdel HaleemWe know we can never frustrate God on earth; we can never escape Him.

Saheeh InternationalAnd when we heard the guidance [i.e., the Qur’ān], we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

Abdel HaleemWhen we heard the guidance we came to believe: whoever believes in his Lord need fear no loss nor injustice.

Saheeh InternationalAnd among us are Muslims [in submission to Allāh], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

Abdel HaleemSome of us submit to Him and others go the wrong way: those who submit to God have found wise guidance,

Saheeh InternationalBut as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

Abdel Haleembut those who go wrong will be fuel for Hellfire.” ’

Saheeh InternationalAnd [Allāh revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant rain [i.e., provision].

Abdel HaleemIf they had taken to the right way, We would have given them abundant water to drink-

Saheeh InternationalSo We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

Abdel Haleema test for them––but anyone who turns away from his Lord’s Revelation will be sent by Him to spiralling torment.

Saheeh InternationalAnd [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allāh, so do not invoke with Allāh anyone.

Abdel HaleemPlaces of worship are for God alone- so do not pray to anyone other than God-

Saheeh InternationalAnd that when the Servant [i.e., Prophet] of Allāh stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."

Abdel Haleemyet when God’s Servant stood up to pray to Him, they pressed in on him.

Saheeh InternationalSay, [O Muḥammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

Abdel HaleemSay, ‘I pray to my Lord alone; I set up no partner with Him.’

Saheeh InternationalSay, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction."

Abdel HaleemSay, ‘I have no control over any harm or good that may befall you.’

Saheeh InternationalSay, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allāh anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

Abdel HaleemSay, ‘No one can protect me from God: I have no refuge except in Him.

Saheeh InternationalBut [I have for you] only notification from Allāh, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

Abdel HaleemI only deliver [what I receive] from God- only His messages.’ Whoever disobeys God and His Messenger will have Hell’s Fire as his permanent home:

Saheeh International[The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.

Abdel Haleemwhen they are confronted by what they have been warned about, they will realize who has the weaker protector and the smaller number.

Saheeh InternationalSay, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period."

Abdel HaleemSay, ‘I do not know whether what you have been warned about is near, or whether a distant time has been appointed for it by my Lord.’

Saheeh International[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone

Abdel HaleemHe is the One who knows what is hidden.

Saheeh InternationalExcept whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before him [i.e., each messenger] and behind him observers

Abdel HaleemHe does not disclose it except to a messenger of His choosing. He sends watchers to go in front and behind

Saheeh InternationalThat he [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.

Abdel Haleemto ensure that each of His messengers delivers his Lord’s message: He knows all about them, and He takes account of everything.
