Saheeh InternationalWhatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allāh, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Abdel HaleemEverything in the heavens and earth glorifies God, the Controller, the Holy One, the Almighty, the Wise.
Saheeh InternationalIt is He who has sent among the unlettered [Arabs] a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom [i.e., the sunnah] - although they were before in clear error -
Abdel HaleemIt is He who raised a mes-senger, among the people who had no Scripture, to recite His revelations to them, to make them grow spiritually and teach them the Scripture and wisdom––before that they were clearly astray––
Saheeh InternationalAnd [to] others of them who have not yet joined them. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Abdel Haleemto them and others yet to join them. He is the Almighty, the Wise:
Saheeh InternationalThat is the bounty of Allāh, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
Abdel Haleemsuch is God’s favour that He grants it to whoever He will; God’s favour is immense.
Saheeh InternationalThe example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Abdel HaleemThose who have been charged to obey the Torah, but do not do so, are like asses carrying books: how base such people are who disobey God’s revelations! God does not guide people who do wrong.
Saheeh InternationalSay, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allāh, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."
Abdel HaleemSay [Prophet], ‘You who follow the Jewish faith, if you truly claim that out of all people you alone are friends of God, then you should be hoping for death.’
Saheeh InternationalBut they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
Abdel HaleemBut because of what they have stored up for themselves with their own hands they would never hope for death––God knows the wrongdoers very well––
Saheeh InternationalSay, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."
Abdel Haleemso say, ‘The death you run away from will come to meet you and you will be returned to the One who knows the unseen as well as the seen: He will tell you everything you have done.’
Saheeh InternationalO you who have believed, when [the adhān] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuʿah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allāh and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.
Abdel HaleemBelievers! When the call to prayer is made on the day of congregation, hurry towards the reminder of God and leave off your trading––that is better for you, if only you knew––
Saheeh InternationalAnd when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allāh, and remember Allāh often that you may succeed.
Abdel Haleemthen when the prayer has ended, disperse in the land and seek out God’s bounty. Remember God often so that you may prosper.
Saheeh InternationalBut [on one occasion] when they saw a transaction or a diversion, [O Muḥammad], they rushed to it and left you standing. Say, "What is with Allāh is better than diversion and than a transaction, and Allāh is the best of providers."
Abdel HaleemYet they scatter towards trade or entertainment whenever they observe it, and leave you [Prophet] standing there. Say, ‘God’s gift is better than any entertainment or trade: God is the best provider.’
