حمٓ۝١

Saheeh InternationalḤā, Meem.

Abdel HaleemHa Mim

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ۝٢

Saheeh InternationalBy the clear Book,

Abdel HaleemBy the Scripture that makes things clear,

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ۝٣

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].

Abdel Haleemtruly We sent it down on a blessed night––We have always sent warnings––

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ۝٤

Saheeh InternationalTherein [i.e., on that night] is made distinct every precise matter -

Abdel Haleema night when every matter of wisdom was made distinct

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ۝٥

Saheeh International[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

Abdel Haleemat Our command––We have always sent messages to man––

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ۝٦

Saheeh InternationalAs mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing,

Abdel Haleemas a mercy [Prophet] from your Lord who sees and knows all,

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ۝٧

Saheeh InternationalLord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain.

Abdel HaleemLord of the heavens and the earth and everything between––if only you people were firm believers––

لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ۝٨

Saheeh InternationalThere is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.

Abdel Haleemthere is no god but Him: He gives life and death––He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers––

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ۝٩

Saheeh InternationalBut they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

Abdel Haleemyet in [their state of] doubt they take nothing seriously.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ۝١٠

Saheeh InternationalThen watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

Abdel Haleem[Prophet], watch out for the Day when the sky brings forth clouds of smoke for all to see.

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۝١١

Saheeh InternationalCovering the people; this is a painful torment.

Abdel HaleemIt will envelop the people. They will cry, ‘This is a terrible torment!

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ۝١٢

Saheeh International[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers."

Abdel HaleemLord relieve us from this torment! We believe!’

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ۝١٣

Saheeh InternationalHow will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger.

Abdel HaleemHow will this [sudden] faith benefit them? When a prophet came to warn them plainly,

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ۝١٤

Saheeh InternationalThen they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman."

Abdel Haleemthey turned their backs on him, saying, ‘He is tutored! He is possessed!’

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ۝١٥

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief].

Abdel HaleemWe shall hold the torment back for a while ––you are sure to return [to Us]––

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ۝١٦

Saheeh InternationalThe Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.

Abdel Haleemand on the Day We seize [them] mightily We shall exact retribution.

۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ۝١٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger [i.e., Moses],

Abdel HaleemWe tested the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them,

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ۝١٨

Saheeh International[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allāh. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,"

Abdel Haleemsaying, ‘Hand the servants of God over to me! I am a faithful messenger who has been sent to you.

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ۝١٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd [saying], "Be not haughty with Allāh. Indeed, I have come to you with clear evidence.

Abdel HaleemDo not consider yourselves to be above God! I come to you with clear authority.

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ۝٢٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

Abdel HaleemI seek refuge in my Lord and yours against your insults!

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ۝٢١

Saheeh InternationalBut if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."

Abdel HaleemIf you do not believe me, just let me be.’

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ۝٢٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

Abdel Haleem[Moses] cried to his Lord, ‘These people are evildoers!’

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ۝٢٣

Saheeh International[Allāh said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

Abdel Haleem[God replied], ‘Escape in the night with My servants, for you are sure to be pursued.

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ۝٢٤

Saheeh InternationalAnd leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."

Abdel HaleemLeave the sea behind you parted and their army will be drowned.’

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ۝٢٥

Saheeh InternationalHow much they left behind of gardens and springs

Abdel HaleemMany a garden and spring they left behind,

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ۝٢٦

Saheeh InternationalAnd crops and noble sites

Abdel Haleemmany a cornfield and noble building,

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ۝٢٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd comfort wherein they were amused.

Abdel Haleemmany a thing in which they had delighted:

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ۝٢٨

Saheeh InternationalThus. And We caused to inherit it another people.

Abdel HaleemWe gave these to another people to inherit.

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ۝٢٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved.

Abdel HaleemNeither heavens nor earth shed a tear for them, nor were they given any time.

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ۝٣٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

Abdel HaleemWe saved the Children of Israel from their degrading suffering

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ۝٣١

Saheeh InternationalFrom Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors.

Abdel Haleemat the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds.

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ۝٣٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

Abdel HaleemWe chose them knowingly above others:

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ۝٣٣

Saheeh InternationalAnd We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial.

Abdel HaleemWe gave them revelations in which there was a clear test.

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ۝٣٤

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, these [disbelievers] are saying,

Abdel HaleemThese people here assert,

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ۝٣٥

Saheeh International"There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.

Abdel Haleem‘There is nothing beyond our one death: we will not be resurrected.

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ۝٣٦

Saheeh InternationalThen bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."

Abdel HaleemBring back our forefathers, if what you say is true.’

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ۝٣٧

Saheeh InternationalAre they better or the people of Tubbaʿ and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.

Abdel HaleemAre they better than the people of Tubba and those who flourished before them? We destroyed them all- they were guilty.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ۝٣٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play.

Abdel HaleemWe were not playing a pointless game when We created the heavens and earth and everything in between;

مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ۝٣٩

Saheeh InternationalWe did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

Abdel HaleemWe created them for a true purpose, but most people do not comprehend.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ۝٤٠

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all -

Abdel HaleemThe Day of Decision is the time appointed for all;

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ۝٤١

Saheeh InternationalThe Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped -

Abdel Haleema Day when no friend can take another’s place.

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ۝٤٢

Saheeh InternationalExcept those [believers] on whom Allāh has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

Abdel HaleemNo one will receive any help except for those to whom God shows mercy: He is the Mighty, the Merciful Lord.

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ۝٤٣

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the tree of zaqqūm

Abdel HaleemThe tree of Zaqqum

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ۝٤٤

Saheeh InternationalIs food for the sinful.

Abdel Haleemwill be food for the sinners:

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ۝٤٥

Saheeh InternationalLike murky oil, it boils within bellies

Abdel Haleem[hot] as molten metal, it boils in their bellies

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ۝٤٦

Saheeh InternationalLike the boiling of scalding water.

Abdel Haleemlike seething water.

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ۝٤٧

Saheeh International[It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,

Abdel Haleem‘Take him! Thrust him into the depths of Hell!

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ۝٤٨

Saheeh InternationalThen pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."

Abdel HaleemPour scalding water over his head as punishment!’

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ۝٤٩

Saheeh International[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!

Abdel Haleem‘Taste this, you powerful, respected man!

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ۝٥٠

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, this is what you used to dispute."

Abdel HaleemThis is what you doubted.’

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ۝٥١

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the righteous will be in a secure place:

Abdel HaleemBut those mindful of God will be in a safe place

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ۝٥٢

Saheeh InternationalWithin gardens and springs,

Abdel Haleemamid Gardens and springs,

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ۝٥٣

Saheeh InternationalWearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.

Abdel Haleemclothed in silk and fine brocade, facing one another:

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ۝٥٤

Saheeh InternationalThus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

Abdel Haleemso it will be. We shall wed them to maidens with large, dark eyes.

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ۝٥٥

Saheeh InternationalThey will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure.

Abdel HaleemSecure and contented, they will call for every kind of fruit.

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ۝٥٦

Saheeh InternationalThey will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

Abdel HaleemAfter the one death they will taste death no more. God will guard them from the torment of Hell,

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ۝٥٧

Saheeh InternationalAs bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment.

Abdel Haleema bounty from your Lord. That is the supreme triumph.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ۝٥٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, We have eased it [i.e., the Qur’ān] in your tongue that they might be reminded.

Abdel HaleemWe have made this Quran easy to understand- in your own language [Prophet]- so that they may take heed.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ۝٥٩

Saheeh InternationalSo watch, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end].

Abdel HaleemSo wait; the disbelievers too are waiting.
