Saheeh InternationalYā, Seen.

Abdel HaleemYa Sin

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ۝٢

Saheeh InternationalBy the wise Qur’ān,

Abdel HaleemBy the wise Quran,

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ۝٣

Saheeh InternationalIndeed you, [O Muḥammad], are from among the messengers,

Abdel Haleemyou [Muhammad] are truly one of the mes-sengers sent

عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ۝٤

Saheeh InternationalOn a straight path.

Abdel Haleemon a straight path,

تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ۝٥

Saheeh International[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

Abdel Haleemwith a revelation from the Almighty, the Lord of Mercy,

لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَـٰفِلُونَ۝٦

Saheeh InternationalThat you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.

Abdel Haleemto warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so they are unaware.

لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ۝٧

Saheeh InternationalAlready the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe.

Abdel HaleemThe verdict has been passed against most of them, for they refuse to believe.

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ۝٨

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft.

Abdel Haleem[It is as if] We had placed [iron] collars around their necks, right up to their chins so that their heads are forced up

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ۝٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.

Abdel Haleemand set barriers before and behind them, blocking their vision: they cannot see.

وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ۝١٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.

Abdel HaleemIt is all the same to them whether you warn them or not: they will not believe.

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ۝١١

Saheeh InternationalYou can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward.

Abdel HaleemYou can warn only those who will follow the Quran and hold the Merciful One in awe, though they cannot see Him: give such people the glad news of forgiveness and a noble reward.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىٓ إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ۝١٢

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.

Abdel HaleemWe shall certainly bring the dead back to life, and We record what they send ahead of them as well as what they leave behind: We keep an account of everything in a clear Record.

وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ۝١٣

Saheeh InternationalAnd present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -

Abdel HaleemGive them the example of the people to whose town messengers came.

إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ۝١٤

Saheeh InternationalWhen We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened [them] with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."

Abdel HaleemWe sent two messengers but they rejected both. Then We reinforced them with a third. They said, ‘Truly, we are messengers to you,’

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ۝١٥

Saheeh InternationalThey said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies."

Abdel Haleembut they answered, ‘You are only men like ourselves. The Lord of Mercy has sent nothing; you are just lying.'

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ۝١٦

Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you,

Abdel HaleemThey said, ‘Our Lord knows that we have been sent to you.

وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ۝١٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd we are not responsible except for clear notification."

Abdel HaleemOur duty is only to deliver the message to you,’

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۝١٨

Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

Abdel Haleembut they answered, ‘We think you are an evil omen. If you do not stop, we shall stone you, and inflict a painful torment on you.’

قَالُوا۟ طَـٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ۝١٩

Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Your omen [i.e., fate] is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."

Abdel HaleemThe messengers said, ‘The evil omen is within yourselves. Why do you take it as an evil omen when you are reminded of the Truth? You are going too far!’

وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ۝٢٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.

Abdel HaleemThen, from the furthest part of the city, a man came running. He said, ‘My people, follow the messengers.

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ۝٢١

Saheeh InternationalFollow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.

Abdel HaleemFollow them: they are not asking you to reward them and they are rightly guided.

وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ۝٢٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?

Abdel HaleemWhy should I not worship the One who created me? It is to Him that you will be returned.

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ۝٢٣

Saheeh InternationalShould I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?

Abdel HaleemHow could I take besides Him any other gods, whose intercession will not help me and who would not be able to save me if the Lord of Mercy wished to harm me?

إِنِّىٓ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ۝٢٤

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I would then be in manifest error.

Abdel HaleemThen I would clearly be in the wrong.

إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ۝٢٥

Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me."

Abdel HaleemI believe in your Lord, so listen to me.’

قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ۝٢٦

Saheeh InternationalIt was said, "Enter Paradise." He said, "I wish my people could know

Abdel HaleemHe was told, ‘Enter the Garden,’ so he said, ‘If only my people knew

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ۝٢٧

Saheeh InternationalOf how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."

Abdel Haleemhow my Lord has forgiven me and set me among the highly honoured.’

۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ۝٢٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor would We have done so.

Abdel HaleemAfter him We did not send any army from heaven against his people, nor were We about to:

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ۝٢٩

Saheeh InternationalIt was not but one shout, and immediately they were extinguished.

Abdel Haleemthere was just one blast, and they fell down lifeless.

يَـٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ۝٣٠

Saheeh InternationalHow regretful for the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him.

Abdel HaleemAlas for human beings! Whenever a messenger comes to them they ridicule him.

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ۝٣١

Saheeh InternationalHave they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they to them will not return?

Abdel HaleemDo they not see how many generations We have destroyed before them, none of whom will ever come back to them?

وَإِن كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ۝٣٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us.

Abdel Haleem[Yet] all of them will be brought before Us.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ۝٣٣

Saheeh InternationalAnd a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.

Abdel HaleemThere is a sign for them in the lifeless earth: We give it life and We produce grain from it for them to eat;

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ۝٣٤

Saheeh InternationalAnd We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs -

Abdel HaleemWe have put gardens of date palms and grapes in the earth, and We have made springs of water gush out of it

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ۝٣٥

Saheeh InternationalThat they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful?

Abdel Haleemso that they could eat its fruit. It was not their own hands that made all this. How can they not give thanks?

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ۝٣٦

Saheeh InternationalExalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.

Abdel HaleemGlory be to Him who created all the pairs of things that the earth produces, as well as themselves and other things they do not know about.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ۝٣٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd a sign for them is the night. We remove from it the [light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

Abdel HaleemThe night is also a sign for them: We strip the daylight from it, and- lo and behold!- they are in darkness.

وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ۝٣٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

Abdel HaleemThe sun, too, runs its determined course laid down for it by the Almighty, the All Knowing.

وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ۝٣٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.

Abdel HaleemWe have determined phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk.

لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ۝٤٠

Saheeh InternationalIt is not allowable [i.e., possible] for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.

Abdel HaleemThe sun cannot overtake the moon, nor can the night outrun the day: each floats in [its own] orbit.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ۝٤١

Saheeh InternationalAnd a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship.

Abdel HaleemAnother sign for them is that We carried their seed in the laden Ark,

وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ۝٤٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.

Abdel Haleemand We have made similar things for them to ride in.

وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ۝٤٣

Saheeh InternationalAnd if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

Abdel HaleemIf We wished, We could drown them, and there would be no one to help them: they could not be saved.

إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ۝٤٤

Saheeh InternationalExcept as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.

Abdel HaleemOnly by Our mercy could they be reprieved to enjoy life for a while.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ۝٤٥

Saheeh InternationalBut when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy..."

Abdel HaleemYet when they are told, ‘Beware of what lies before and behind you, so that you may be given mercy,’

وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ۝٤٦

Saheeh InternationalAnd no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

Abdel Haleemthey ignore every single sign that comes to them from their Lord,

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ۝٤٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allāh has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allāh had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."

Abdel Haleemand when they are told, ‘Give to others out of what God has provided for you,’ the disbelievers say to the believers, ‘Why should we feed those that God could feed if He wanted? You must be deeply misguided.’

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ۝٤٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

Abdel HaleemAnd they say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if what you say is true?’

مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ۝٤٩

Saheeh InternationalThey do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.

Abdel HaleemBut all they are waiting for is a single blast that will overtake them while they are still arguing with each other.

فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ۝٥٠

Saheeh InternationalAnd they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.

Abdel HaleemThey will have no time to make bequests, nor will they have the chance to return to their own people.

وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ۝٥١

Saheeh InternationalAnd the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.

Abdel HaleemThe Trumpet will be sounded and- lo and behold!- they will rush out to their Lord from their graves.

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ۝٥٢

Saheeh InternationalThey will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."

Abdel HaleemThey will say, ‘Alas for us! Who has resurrected us from our resting places?’ [They will be told], ‘This is what the Lord of Mercy promised, and the messengers told the truth.’

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ۝٥٣

Saheeh InternationalIt will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.

Abdel HaleemIt was just one single blast and then- lo and behold!- they were all brought before Us.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ۝٥٤

Saheeh InternationalSo today [i.e., the Day of Judgement] no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.

Abdel Haleem‘Today, no soul will be wronged in the least: you will only be repaid for your deeds.

إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَـٰكِهُونَ۝٥٥

Saheeh InternationalIndeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -

Abdel HaleemThe people of Paradise today are happily occupied-

هُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِـُٔونَ۝٥٦

Saheeh InternationalThey and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches.

Abdel Haleemthey and their spouses- seated on couches in the shade.

لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ۝٥٧

Saheeh InternationalFor them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]

Abdel HaleemThere they have fruit and whatever they ask for.

سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ۝٥٨

Saheeh International[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.

Abdel Haleem“Peace,” a word from the Lord of Mercy.

وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ۝٥٩

Saheeh International[Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals.

Abdel HaleemBut step aside today, you guilty ones.

۞ أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ۝٦٠

Saheeh InternationalDid I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -

Abdel HaleemChildren of Adam, did I not command you not to serve Satan, for he was your sworn enemy,

وَأَنِ ٱعْبُدُونِى ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ۝٦١

Saheeh InternationalAnd that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.

Abdel Haleembut to serve Me? This is the straight path.

وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ۝٦٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?

Abdel HaleemHe has led great numbers of you astray. Did you not use your reason?

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ۝٦٣

Saheeh InternationalThis is the Hellfire which you were promised.

Abdel HaleemSo this is the Fire that you were warned against.

ٱصْلَوْهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ۝٦٤

Saheeh International[Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny."

Abdel HaleemEnter it today, because you went on ignoring [my commands].’

ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ۝٦٥

Saheeh InternationalThat Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.

Abdel HaleemOn that Day We shall seal up their mouths, but their hands will speak to Us, and their feet bear witness to everything they have done.

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ۝٦٦

Saheeh InternationalAnd if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?

Abdel HaleemIf it had been Our will, We could have taken away their sight. They would have struggled to find the way, but how could they have seen it?

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ۝٦٧

Saheeh InternationalAnd if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.

Abdel HaleemIf it had been Our will, We could have paralysed them where they stood, so that they could not move forward or backward.

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ۝٦٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not understand?

Abdel HaleemIf We extend anyone’s life, We reverse his development. Do they not use their reason?

وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ۝٦٩

Saheeh InternationalAnd We did not give him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur’ān

Abdel HaleemWe have not taught the Prophet poetry, nor could he everhave been a poet.

لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ۝٧٠

Saheeh InternationalTo warn whoever is alive and justify the word [i.e., decree] against the disbelievers.

Abdel HaleemThis is a revelation, an illuminating Quran to warn anyone who is truly alive, so that God’s verdict may be passed against the disbelievers.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ۝٧١

Saheeh InternationalDo they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners?

Abdel HaleemCan they not see how, among the things made by Our hands, We have created livestock they control,

وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ۝٧٢

Saheeh InternationalAnd We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat.

Abdel Haleemand made them obedient, so that some can be used for riding, some for food,

وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ۝٧٣

Saheeh InternationalAnd for them therein are [other] benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful?

Abdel Haleemsome for other benefits, and some for drink? Will they not give thanks?

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ۝٧٤

Saheeh InternationalBut they have taken besides Allāh [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped.

Abdel HaleemYet they have taken other gods besides God to help them,

لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُّحْضَرُونَ۝٧٥

Saheeh InternationalThey are not able to help them, and they [themselves] are for them soldiers in attendance.

Abdel Haleemthough these could not do so even if they called a whole army of them together!

فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ۝٧٦

Saheeh InternationalSo let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare.

Abdel HaleemSo [Prophet] do not be distressed at what they say: We know what they conceal and what they reveal.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ۝٧٧

Saheeh InternationalDoes man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary?

Abdel HaleemCan man not see that We created him from a drop of fluid? Yet- lo and behold!- he disputes openly,

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ۝٧٨

Saheeh InternationalAnd he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"

Abdel Haleemproducing arguments against Us, forgetting his own creation. He says, ‘Who can give life back to bones after they have decayed?’

قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ۝٧٩

Saheeh InternationalSay, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing."

Abdel HaleemSay, ‘He who created them in the first place will give them life again: He has full knowledge of every act of creation.

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ۝٨٠

Saheeh International[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite.

Abdel HaleemIt is He who produces fire for you out of the green tree- lo and behold!- and from this you kindle fire.

أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ۝٨١

Saheeh InternationalIs not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.

Abdel HaleemIs He who created the heavens and earth not able to create the likes of these people? Of course He is! He is the All Knowing Creator:

إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ۝٨٢

Saheeh InternationalHis command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.

Abdel Haleemwhen He wills something to be, His way is to say, “Be”- and it is!

فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ۝٨٣

Saheeh InternationalSo exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.

Abdel HaleemSo glory be to Him in whose Hand lies control over all things. It is to Him that you will all be brought back.’
