Saheeh InternationalṬā, Hā.
Abdel HaleemTa Ha
Saheeh InternationalWe have not sent down to you the Qur’ān that you be distressed
Abdel HaleemIt was not to distress you [Prophet] that We sent down the Quran to you,
Saheeh InternationalBut only as a reminder for those who fear [Allāh] -
Abdel Haleembut as a reminder for those who hold God in awe,
Saheeh InternationalA revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens,
Abdel Haleema revelation from the One who created the earth and the high heaven,
Saheeh InternationalThe Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.
Abdel Haleemthe Lord of Mercy, established on the throne.
Saheeh InternationalTo Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil.
Abdel HaleemEverything in the heavens and on earth, everything between them, everything beneath the soil, belongs to Him.
Saheeh InternationalAnd if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden.
Abdel HaleemWhatever you may say aloud, He knows what you keep secret and what is even more hidden.
Saheeh InternationalAllāh - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.
Abdel HaleemGod––there is no god but Him––the most excellent names belong to Him.
Saheeh InternationalAnd has the story of Moses reached you? -
Abdel HaleemHas the story of Moses come to you [Prophet]?
Saheeh InternationalWhen he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance."
Abdel HaleemHe saw a fire and said to his people, ‘Stay here––I can see a fire. Maybe I can bring you a flaming brand from it or find some guidance there.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses,
Abdel HaleemWhen he came to the fire, he was summoned, ‘Moses!
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the blessed valley of Ṭuwā.
Abdel HaleemI am your Lord. Take off your shoes: you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.
Saheeh InternationalAnd I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you].
Abdel HaleemI have chosen you, so listen to what is being revealed.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, I am Allāh. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
Abdel HaleemI am God; there is no god but Me. So worship Me and keep up the prayer so that you remember Me.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.
Abdel HaleemThe Hour is coming––though I choose to keep it hidden––for each soul to be rewarded for its labour.
Saheeh InternationalSo do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.
Abdel HaleemDo not let anyone who does not believe in it and follows his own desires distract you from it, and so bring you to ruin.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"
Abdel Haleem‘Moses, what is that in your right hand?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses."
Abdel Haleem‘It is my staff,’ he said, ‘I lean on it; restrain my sheep with it; I also have other uses for it.’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "Throw it down, O Moses."
Abdel HaleemGod said, ‘Throw it down, Moses.’
Saheeh InternationalSo he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.
Abdel HaleemHe threw it down and- lo and behold!- it became a fast-moving snake.
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘Pick it up without fear: We shall turn it back into its former state.
Saheeh InternationalAnd draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign,
Abdel HaleemNow place your hand under your armpit and it will come out white, though unharmed: that is another sign.
Saheeh InternationalThat We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.
Abdel HaleemWe do this to show you some of Our greatest signs.
Saheeh InternationalGo to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed [i.e., tyrannized]."
Abdel HaleemGo to Pharaoh, for he has truly become a tyrant.’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand [i.e., relax] for me my breast [with assurance]
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘Lord, lift up my heart
Saheeh InternationalAnd ease for me my task
Abdel Haleemand ease my task for me.
Saheeh InternationalAnd untie the knot from my tongue
Abdel HaleemUntie my tongue,
Saheeh InternationalThat they may understand my speech.
Abdel Haleemso that they may understand my words,
Saheeh InternationalAnd appoint for me a minister [i.e., assistant] from my family -
Abdel Haleemand give me a helper from my family,
Saheeh InternationalAaron, my brother.
Abdel Haleemmy brother Aaron-
Saheeh InternationalIncrease through him my strength
Abdel Haleemaugment my strength through him.
Saheeh InternationalAnd let him share my task
Abdel HaleemLet him share my task
Saheeh InternationalThat we may exalt You much
Abdel Haleemso that we can glorify You much
Saheeh InternationalAnd remember You much.
Abdel Haleemand remember You often:
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, You are of us ever Seeing."
Abdel HaleemYou are always watching over us.’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.
Abdel HaleemGod said, ‘Moses, your request is granted.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had already conferred favor upon you another time,
Abdel HaleemIndeed We showed you favour before.
Saheeh InternationalWhen We inspired to your mother what We inspired,
Abdel HaleemWe inspired your mother, saying,
Saheeh International[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye [i.e., observation and care].
Abdel Haleem“Put your child into the chest, then place him in the river. Let the river wash him on to its bank, and he will be taken in by an enemy of Mine and his.” I showered you with My love and planned that you should be reared under My watchful eye.
Saheeh International[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.
Abdel HaleemYour sister went out, saying, “I will tell you someone who will nurse him,” then We returned you to your mother so that she could rejoice and not grieve. Later you killed a man, but We saved you from distress and tried you with other tests. You stayed among the people of Midian for years, then you came here as I ordained.
Saheeh InternationalAnd I produced you for Myself.
Abdel HaleemI have chosen you for Myself.
Saheeh InternationalGo, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.
Abdel HaleemGo, you and your brother, with My signs, and make sure that you remember Me.
Saheeh InternationalGo, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
Abdel HaleemGo, both of you, to Pharaoh, for he has exceeded all bounds.
Saheeh InternationalAnd speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allāh]."
Abdel HaleemSpeak to him gently so that he may take heed, or show respect.’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress."
Abdel HaleemThey said, ‘Lord, we fear he will do us great harm or exceed all bounds.’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘Do not be afraid, I am with you both, hearing and seeing everything.
Saheeh InternationalSo go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance.
Abdel HaleemGo and tell him, “We are your Lord’s mes-sengers, so send the Children of Israel with us and do not oppress them. We have brought you a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon whoever follows the right guidance;
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.'"
Abdel Haleemit has been revealed to us that punishment falls on whoever rejects the truth and turns his back on it.”’
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?"
Abdel Haleem[Pharaoh] said, ‘Moses, who is this Lord of yours?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]."
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘Our Lord is He who gave everything its form, then gave it guidance.’
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?"
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘What about former generations?’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘My Lord alone has knowledge of them, all in a record; my Lord does not err or forget.’
Saheeh International[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.
Abdel HaleemIt was He who spread out the earth for you and traced routes in it. He sent down water from the sky. With that water We bring forth every kind of plant,
Saheeh InternationalEat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
Abdel Haleemso eat, and graze your cattle. There are truly signs in all this for people of understand-ing.
Saheeh InternationalFrom it [i.e., the earth] We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.
Abdel HaleemFrom the earth We created you, into it We shall return you, and from it We shall raise you a second time.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We certainly showed him [i.e., Pharaoh] Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused.
Abdel HaleemWe showed Pharaoh all Our signs, but he denied them and refused [to change].
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘Have you come to drive us from our land with your sorcery, Moses?
Saheeh InternationalThen we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned."
Abdel HaleemWe will confront you with sorcery to match your own: make an appointment between us which neither of us will fail to keep, in a mutually agreeable place.’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning."
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘Your meeting will be on the day of the feast, so let the people be assembled when the sun has risen high.’
Saheeh InternationalSo Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].
Abdel HaleemPharaoh withdrew and gathered his resources, then he returned.
Saheeh InternationalMoses said to them [i.e., the magicians summoned by Pharaoh], "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allāh or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."
Abdel HaleemMoses said to them, ‘Beware, do not invent lies against God or He will destroy you with His punishment. Whoever invents lies will fail.’
Saheeh InternationalSo they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.
Abdel HaleemSo they discussed their plan among themselves, talking secretly,
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way [i.e., religion or tradition].
Abdel Haleemsaying, ‘These two men are sorcerers. Their purpose is to drive you out of your land with their sorcery and put an end to your time-honoured way of life.
Saheeh InternationalSo resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes."
Abdel HaleemSo gather your resources and line up for the contest. Whoever wins today is sure to prosper.’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."
Abdel HaleemThey said, ‘Moses, will you throw first or shall we?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].
Abdel Haleem‘You throw,’ said Moses, and––lo and behold!––through their sorcery, their ropes and staffs seemed to him to be moving.
Saheeh InternationalAnd he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses.
Abdel HaleemMoses was inwardly alarmed,
Saheeh InternationalWe [i.e., Allāh] said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.
Abdel Haleembut We said, ‘Do not be afraid, you have the upper hand.
Saheeh InternationalAnd throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."
Abdel HaleemThrow down what is in your right hand: it will swallow up what they have produced. They have only produced the tricks of a sorcerer, and a sorcerer will not prosper, wherever he goes.’
Saheeh InternationalSo the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."
Abdel Haleem[So it was, and] the sorcerers threw themselves down in submission. ‘We believe,’ they said, ‘in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.’
Saheeh International[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring."
Abdel HaleemPharaoh said, ‘How dare you believe in him before I have given you permission? This must be your master, the man who taught you witchcraft. I shall certainly cut off your alternate hands and feet, then crucify you on the trunks of palm trees. You will know for certain which of us has the fiercer and more lasting punishment.’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.
Abdel HaleemThey said, ‘We shall never prefer you to the clear sign that has come to us, nor to Him who created us. So decide whatever you will: you can only decide matters of this present life-
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allāh is better and more enduring."
Abdel Haleemwe believe in our Lord, [hoping] He may forgive us our sins and the sorcery that you forced us to practise- God is better and more lasting.’
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.
Abdel HaleemHell will be the reward of those who return to their Lord as evildoers: there they will stay, neither living nor dying.
Saheeh InternationalBut whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position]:
Abdel HaleemBut those who return to their Lord as believers with righteous deeds will be rewarded with the highest of ranks,
Saheeh InternationalGardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself.
Abdel HaleemGardens of lasting bliss graced with flowing streams, and there they will stay. Such is the reward of those who purify themselves.
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."
Abdel HaleemWe revealed to Moses, ‘Go out at night with My servants and strike a dry path for them across the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be dismayed.’
Saheeh InternationalSo Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,
Abdel HaleemPharaoh pursued them with his armies and was overwhelmed by the sea.
Saheeh InternationalAnd Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].
Abdel HaleemPharaoh truly led his people astray; he did not guide them.
Saheeh InternationalO Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,
Abdel HaleemChildren of Israel, We rescued you from your enemies. We made a pledge with you on the right-hand side of the mountain. We sent down manna and quails for you,
Saheeh International[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen [i.e., perished]."
Abdel Haleem‘Eat from the good things We have provided for you, but do not overstep the bounds, or My wrath will descend on you. Anyone on whom My wrath descends has truly fallen.
Saheeh InternationalBut indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
Abdel HaleemYet I am most forgiving towards those who repent, believe, do righteous deeds, and stay on the right path.’
Saheeh International[Allāh said], "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"
Abdel Haleem[God said], ‘Moses, what has made you come ahead of your people in such haste?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."
Abdel Haleemand he said, ‘They are following in my footsteps. I rushed to You, Lord, to please You,’
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Sāmirī has led them astray."
Abdel Haleembut God said, ‘We have tested your people in your absence: the Samiri has led them astray.’
Saheeh InternationalSo Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"
Abdel HaleemMoses returned to his people, angry and aggrieved. He said, ‘My people, did your Lord not make you a gracious promise? Was my absence too long for you? Did you want anger to fall on you from your Lord and so broke your word to me?’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Sāmirī throw."
Abdel HaleemThey said, ‘We did not break our word to you deliberately. We were burdened with the weight of people’s jewellery, so we threw it [into the fire], and the Samiri did the same,’
Saheeh InternationalAnd he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."
Abdel Haleembut he [used the molten jewellery to] produce an image of a calf which made a lowing sound, and they said, ‘This is your god and Moses’ god, but he has forgotten.’
Saheeh InternationalDid they not see that it could not return to them any speech [i.e., response] and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?
Abdel HaleemDid they not see that [the calf] gave them no answer, that it had no power to harm or benefit them?
Saheeh InternationalAnd Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order."
Abdel HaleemAaron did say to them, ‘My people, this calf is a test for you. Your true Lord is the Lord of Mercy, so follow me and obey my orders,’
Saheeh InternationalThey said, "We will never cease being devoted to it [i.e., the calf] until Moses returns to us."
Abdel Haleembut they replied, ‘We shall not give up our devotion to it until Moses returns to us.’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘When you realized they had gone astray, what prevented you, Aaron,
Saheeh InternationalFrom following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?"
Abdel Haleemfrom coming after me? How could you disobey my orders?’
Saheeh International[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.'"
Abdel HaleemHe said, ‘Son of my mother- let go of my beard and my hair!- I was afraid you would say, “You have caused division among the children of Israel and have not heeded what I said.”’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Sāmirī?"
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘And what was the matter with you, Samiri?’
Saheeh InternationalHe said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me."
Abdel HaleemHe replied, ‘I saw something they did not; I took in some of the teachings of the Messenger but tossed them aside: my soul prompted me to do what I did.’
Saheeh International[Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it [i.e., its ashes] into the sea with a blast.
Abdel HaleemMoses said, ‘Get away from here! Your lot in this life is to say, “Do not touch me,” but you have an appointment from which there is no escape. Look at your god which you have kept on worshipping- we shall grind it down and scatter it into the sea.
Saheeh InternationalYour god is only Allāh, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."
Abdel Haleem[People], your true god is the One God- there is no god but Him- whose knowledge embraces everything.’
Saheeh InternationalThus, [O Muḥammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].
Abdel HaleemIn this way We relate to you [Prophet] stories of what happened before. We have given you a Quran from Us.
Saheeh InternationalWhoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden [i.e., great sin],
Abdel HaleemWhoever turns away from it will bear on the Day of Resurrection a heavy burden
Saheeh International[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -
Abdel Haleemand will remain under it. What a terrible burden to carry on that Day!
Saheeh InternationalThe Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.
Abdel HaleemWhen the trumpet is sounded and We gather the sinful, sightless,
Saheeh InternationalThey will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]."
Abdel Haleemthey will murmur to one another, ‘You stayed only ten days [on earth]’-
Saheeh InternationalWe are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner [i.e., wisdom or speech] will say, "You remained not but one day."
Abdel HaleemWe know best what they say- but the more perceptive of them will say, ‘Your stay [on earth] was only a single day.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast.
Abdel HaleemThey ask you [Prophet] about the mountains: say, ‘[On that Day] my Lord will blast them into dust
Saheeh InternationalAnd He will leave it [i.e., the earth] a level plain;
Abdel Haleemand leave a flat plain,
Saheeh InternationalYou will not see therein a depression or an elevation."
Abdel Haleemwith no peak or trough to be seen.
Saheeh InternationalThat Day, they [i.e., everyone] will follow [the call of] the Caller [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].
Abdel HaleemOn that Day, people will follow the summoner from whom there is no escape; every voice will be hushed for the Lord of Mercy; only whispers will be heard.
Saheeh InternationalThat Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word.
Abdel HaleemOn that Day, intercession will be useless except from those to whom the Lord of Mercy has granted permission and whose words He approves-
Saheeh InternationalHe [i.e., Allāh] knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it [i.e., what He knows] in knowledge.
Abdel HaleemHe knows what is before and behind them, though they do not comprehend Him-
Saheeh InternationalAnd [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. And he will have failed who carries injustice.
Abdel Haleemand [all] faces will be humbled before the Living, Ever Watchful One. Those burdened with evil deeds will despair,
Saheeh InternationalBut he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.
Abdel Haleembut whoever has done righteous deeds and believed need have no fear of injustice or deprivation.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.
Abdel HaleemWe have sent the Quran down in the Arabic tongue and given all kinds of warnings in it, so that they may beware or take heed-
Saheeh InternationalSo high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
Abdel Haleemexalted be God, the one who is truly in control. [Prophet], do not rush to recite before the revelation is fully complete but say, ‘Lord, increase me in knowledge!’
Saheeh InternationalAnd We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.
Abdel HaleemWe also commanded Adam before you, but he forgot and We found him lacking in constancy.
Saheeh InternationalAnd [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.
Abdel HaleemWhen We said to the angels, ‘Bow down before Adam,’ they did. But Iblis refused,
Saheeh InternationalSo We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.
Abdel Haleemso We said, ‘Adam, this is your enemy, yours and your wife’s: do not let him drive you out of the garden and make you miserable.
Saheeh InternationalIndeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.
Abdel HaleemIn the garden you will never go hungry, feel naked,
Saheeh InternationalAnd indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun."
Abdel Haleembe thirsty, or suffer the heat of the sun.’
Saheeh InternationalThen Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"
Abdel HaleemBut Satan whispered to Adam, saying, ‘Adam, shall I show you the tree of immortality and power that never decays?’
Saheeh InternationalAnd they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
Abdel Haleemand they both ate from it. They became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with leaves from the garden. Adam disobeyed his Lord and was led astray-
Saheeh InternationalThen his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].
Abdel Haleemlater his Lord brought him close, accepted his repentance, and guided him-
Saheeh International[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].
Abdel HaleemGod said, ‘Get out of the garden as each other’s enemy.’ Whoever follows My guidance, when it comes to you [people], will not go astray nor fall into misery,
Saheeh InternationalAnd whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind."
Abdel Haleembut whoever turns away from it will have a life of great hardship. We shall bring him blind to the Assembly on the Day of Resurrection
Saheeh InternationalHe will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"
Abdel Haleemand he will say, ‘Lord, why did You bring me here blind? I was sighted before!’
Saheeh International[Allāh] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot [i.e., disregarded] them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten."
Abdel HaleemGod will say, ‘This is how it is: You ignored Our revelations when they came to you, so today you will be ignored.’
Saheeh InternationalAnd thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.
Abdel HaleemThis is how We reward those who go too far, and who do not believe in their Lord’s revelations. The greatest and most enduring punishment is in the Hereafter.
Saheeh InternationalThen, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
Abdel HaleemDo they not draw a lesson from the many generations We destroyed before them, through whose dwelling places they now walk? There truly are signs in this for anyone with understanding!
Saheeh InternationalAnd if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it [i.e., punishment] would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].
Abdel HaleemIf it were not for a preordained Word from your Lord [Prophet], they would already have been destroyed. Their time has been set,
Saheeh InternationalSo be patient over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
Abdel Haleemso [Prophet] be patient with what they say- celebrate the praise of your Lord, before the rising and setting of the sun, celebrate His praise during the night, and at the beginning and end of the day, so that you may find contentment-
Saheeh InternationalAnd do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
Abdel Haleemand do not gaze longingly at what We have given some of them to enjoy, the finery of this present life: We test them through this, but the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.
Saheeh InternationalAnd enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.
Abdel HaleemOrder your people to pray, and pray steadfastly yourself. We are not asking you to give Us provision; We provide for you, and the rewards of the Hereafter belong to the devout.
Saheeh InternationalAnd they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures?
Abdel HaleemThe disbelievers say, ‘Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?’ Have they not been given clear proof confirming what was in the earlier scriptures?
Saheeh InternationalAnd if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses [i.e., teachings] before we were humiliated and disgraced?"
Abdel HaleemIf We had destroyed them through punishment before this Messenger came, they would have said, ‘Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, we could have followed Your revelations before we suffered humiliation and disgrace!’
Saheeh InternationalSay, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided."
Abdel Haleem[Prophet], say, ‘We are all waiting, so you carry on waiting: you will come to learn who has followed the even path, and been rightly guided.’
